The first issue of 2026 of Falstaff Italia devotes ample space to the wines of Valtellina and the Nebbiolo of the Alps, paying tribute to a territory that is unique on the global stage.
“The red wines of Valtellina carry their mountain identity in their very name, shaped by the peaks rising above 3,000 meters that surround them. Here, on south-facing stone terraces, summer can be scorching. Today, from this valley on the border with Switzerland, come some of Italy’s most refined and multifaceted reds.”
The article also includes the “Best of Valtellina,” featuring the wines that achieved the highest ratings in tastings conducted at the beginning of the year by the Falstaff team. Among the nine selected wines is our Cristina Scarpellini Valtellina Superiore DOCG Valgella Riserva 2020, which received a score of 94/100.
“Bright ruby with a pronounced garnet component. An inviting nose of raspberry and rosehip, with delicate hints of rose and a slight ferrous note in the background. A structured, well-integrated tannin defines the palate, developing in multiple layers; fine red fruit, a hint of brioche, and a finish that is still slightly rustic.”
